The project brief was to design a typeface, from concept to final digital files and a specimen. The outcome was a typeface inspired by Grevillea - the diverse group of native Australian flora - as well as a specimen book.
It attempts to imitate these unique, spider-like and brightly coloured flowers. The extended stroke endings of each letter are designed to emulate the graceful anthers that stem from the flowers and transform a serif typeface into something that is both elegant and distinctive. Due to the extended swashes, I designed a set of alternate glyphs so that the ascenders and descenders can be easily arranged to create captivating orchestrations of text.
